Favourite Short Stories: 2018

I love doing this annual short stories post (you can find posts from previous years linked here) and I think this 2018's list once again shows just how many good short story writers there are writing today. So many that one person couldn't possibly keep track of them all, so this post is just a small and biased snapshot of a larger whole. But within this snapshot, I hope readers of this blog find some stories and authors new to them.

As ever, these are all recent-ish stories and I've listed where I read the story, which isn't necessarily the place where it was originally published.

A great list James, with as always plenty to catch up on. And thanks so much for including two stories, The Ice Garden by Eric Brown and Vegetable Love by Lisa Tuttle, from my anthology Improbable Botany. It's a book of which I'm very proud, so I'm utterly delighted that you enjoyed them.

A wonderful list, James, I'm pleased to say that I know most of the authors whose work you've mentioned, but sorry to say I've only read a handful of the stories you've listed. Once again you've given me a reading list that I can look forward to catching up on, until next year. Very honoured that one of my stories made the list and most pleased you were amused by it.
